Kakani-A peaceful Retreat in the Mountains

Ganesh Himal view from Kakani

This past weekend, I took on an exciting challenge – to vlog in English while exploring the serene hill station of Kakani with my family! Located just 22 kilometers northwest of Kathmandu, It is a peaceful retreat offering stunning views of the Himalayan mountains. Our journey began early in the morning, with the fresh air, scenic views, and a much-needed escape from city life.

Introduction

Kakani is a peaceful hill station in the Nuwakot District of Bagmati Province in Central Nepal located just 22 kilometers northwest of Kathmandu sitting at an altitude of 2,030 meters. It is known for its stunning view of the Himalayas, cool climate, and beautiful nature. One of the best things about Kakani is the fresh air and cool weather. The small town is surrounded by green forests making it ideal for hiking picnics or just relaxing. If you love strawberries, Kakani is the best place to be. It’s famous for strawberry farming, and you can even try picking fresh strawberries during the harvest season.

As we drove through the winding roads, we were surrounded by lush greenery and breathtaking views of peaks like Ganesh Himal and Langtang. But currently, the road condition is so poor that I wouldn’t recommend traveling on two-wheelers due to the muddy road. Also, I would like to request the concerned sector to focus especially on the road condition as this might degrade the value of Kakani. But you can find lots of Hotels and Restaurants as well as resorts to forget this and enjoy the scenery and taste the famous Trout Fish.

The cool climate was a welcome change, and we couldn’t wait to start exploring. We visited local farms, where we saw the famous organic strawberry cultivation that Kakani is known for. The area’s peaceful atmosphere made it the perfect spot for a family getaway. We also explored some scenic trails and charming villages, capturing beautiful moments along the way for my English vlog challenge.

Kakani offers stunning views of three major Himalayan ranges which attract travelers seeking both adventure and tranquility:

  • Langtang: It is  Known as the “Valley of Glaciers” Langtang offers breathtaking views of snow-covered peaks and glaciers. Located to the north of Kathmandu, this range is a favorite for trekkers looking to explore deep valleys and experience the rich Tamang culture.
  • Ganesh Himal: Named after the Hindu god Ganesh, this range is perfect for those seeking peace away from the crowds. The trek here provides beautiful views of lush forests, terraced fields, and snow-capped mountains, offering a serene experience.
  • Annapurna: Famous for Annapurna I, the 10th highest peak in the world, this range is one of Nepal’s most popular trekking destinations. The Annapurna Circuit showcases diverse landscapes, from alpine forests to picturesque villages, making it a must-see for adventure seekers.
